Tamil Nadu was the top State in terms of the number of factories and persons employed in the manufacturing sector, according to the results of the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2023-24 released by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).
As per the survey, a total of 1,95,89,131 persons were engaged in factories across India, of which Tamil Nadu accounted for 15.24%. The States that followed Tamil Nadu in this category were Gujarat (13.07%), Maharashtra (12.95%), Uttar Pradesh (8.30%), and Karnataka (6.29%).
