Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called out the dark irony of people offering their thoughts and prayers following the deadly shooting at a Catholic School Mass on Wednesday.

“These kids were literally praying,” he told reporters after a gunman killed two kids and wounded 17 others at Annunciation Church.

“Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now,” said Frey, who’s advocated for basic gun control measures like universal background checks and red‑flag laws.

President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem were among those to offer their prayers.

“Please join me in praying for everyone involved,” Trump wrote.
