The comptroller personally criticized senior IDF and police officials in a draft investigating their conduct during the massacre at the music festival. The IDF has previously said the comptroller is targeting it to fill the vacuum created by the government's refusal to appoint a state commission of inquiry
An investigative report draft penned by Israel's state comptroller personally criticized senior officials in the IDF and the Israel Police regarding the failings that led to the massacre at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, according to a report by Israel's Channel 12 News on Tuesday.
Military officials said they were not given an opportunity to give their testimonies on the matter, according to the report. The IDF has previously said that State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman is defying an agreement the military reached with the Israeli High Court that Englman will not look into the individual conduct of military officials on October 7.
While the comptroller's probe is not a criminal one, Israel's attorney general could decide to launch a criminal investigation based on the comptroller's findings.
The State Comptroller's Office said that Englman acted in accordance with his legal authority.
