A courageous lifeguard pulled a snarling snapping turtle from the waters of a Seattle-area park before fearlessly posing with the dangerous reptile.

The young lifeguard jumped into action last week when he spotted the massive alligator snapping turtle under a dock at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland, Washington.

Kirkland Parks and Community Services commended the lifeguard, Dani, for keeping beachgoers safe with his quick-thinking response.

'While they may look interesting, snapping turtles are invasive and can be aggressive,' the agency said in a Facebook post featuring a photo of Dani hosting the aggressive reptile.

'Their powerful jaws can cause serious injury, so if you see one, please keep your distance and alert a lifeguard or park staff.'
