Three motorists killed when their minivan collided with a semi-trailer making an illegal U-turn have been identified as members of Florida's Haitian community.

Herby Dufresne, 30, who lived in Florida City, Rodrigue Dor, 54, from Miami, and Faniloa Joseph, 37, of Pompano Beach died in August 12.

Dufresne was driving the Chrysler minivan when Indian asylum-seeker Harjinder Singh suddenly turned across two lanes of traffic on the Florida Turnpike.

He had no time to brake and nowhere to turn before the car slammed into the trailer near Fort Pierce and was dragged underneath, killing all three on board.

Singh and his passenger were unharmed in the crash and chilling video showed his unfazed reaction to the minivan smashing into his rig.
