A leading Welsh Labour politician hailed by Sir Keir Starmer as a 'powerful voice' was founded hanged at his home the day before his 48th birthday, an inquest heard today.

Hefin David, 47, who had served as the Member of the Senedd for Caerphilly since 2016 and had two children with fellow MS Vikki Howells, died on August 12.

An inquest into his death was opened at Gwent Coroner's Court on Tuesday by area coroner Rose Farmer.

A post mortem examination was carried out on August 15 but the final cause of Mr David's death is awaiting following the results of a toxicology examination.

Mr David was identified by his sister at the scene and enquiries into the circumstances of his death remain ongoing, the hearing was told.
