With its miles of sandy shores, family-friendly atmosphere and Victorian pier with arcade games and penny pushers, Teignmouth seems an unlikely destination for Britain's most crime-ridden beach.

But statistics uncovered by the Daily Mail's data team have found 261 crimes are reported per square kilometer on Spratt Sand in the Devon town - higher than any other beach in the UK from July 2024 to June 2025.

This week, as millions of Brits soak up the sun and enjoy family time by the sea, some of Teignmouth's 15,000 residents told the Daily Mail they have witnessed violent assaults on their doorsteps and no longer feel safe walking through the town because of armed teens.

Mike Jackman, owner of Jackman's All Seasons souvenir shop has run businesses in the town for 30 years, witnessed a violent assault recently when a man was knocked over and kicked in the head.

He said: 'I'm not surprised the figures are high, it's genuinely a nice town but there is a big drug problem here.
