Mariam Dagga, a freelance photographer for The Associated Press, and Hussam al-Masri, a cameraman for Reuters, were killed when the IDF struck Nasser Hospital twice on Monday
Five journalists and photojournalists were among at least 20 Palestinians killed in southern Gaza on Monday, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said, after the Israeli army struck the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, twice.
The IDF confirmed its forces struck in the area of Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. In a statement it "regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such," adding that it acts to "mitigate harm to uninvolved individuals as much as possible while maintaining the safety of IDF troops." IDF officials said later on Monday that the hospital was not struck from the air, but by a tank that fired a shell toward a camera that was installed in the area.
Among the journalists killed were Mariam Dagga, a photojournalist who freelanced for The Associated Press, and Hussam al-Masri, a photojournalist for Reuters.
Dagga frequently based herself at Nasser Hospital, most recently reporting on the hospital's doctors struggling to save children from starvation. Independent Arabia, the Arabic language version of the U.K.'s Independent newspaper, said Dagga also worked with the outlet.
