At least five journalists were among 20 people killed in Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital in Gaza on Monday, Palestinian health officials said.
The four journalists were Mohammed Salama, a photojournalist with Al Jazeera; Mariam Abu Daqa, who worked for several media outlets, including The Independent Arabic and Associated Press; Moaz Abu Taha, a journalist with the NBC network and cameraman Hussam al-Masri, a Reuters contractor.
Gaza's civil defense agency spokesperson Mahmud Bassal said "the toll so far is 20 martyrs, including five journalists and one member of the civil defense," after strikes hit Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis – a large medical complex in the south that has been targeted several times by Israel since the start of the war.
According to media watchdogs, over 200 journalists have been killed in Israel's nearly two years of war on Gaza.
In a statement, the Israeli military said its troops on Monday "carried out a strike in the area of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis."
