Constructing settlements in the occupied West Bank has consistently been a tactic used by Israel to impede the end of the occupation and prevent a two-state solution. Last week's approval of settlement construction plans in the E1 area, touted by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich as "erasing" a potential Palestinian state "not in slogans, but in actions" effectively delivers a final death blow to the two-state solution, by establishing contiguous Israeli settlements from Jerusalem to Ma'ale Adumim.
