Sens Chris Van Hollen and Jeff Merkley, two of the Democratic Party's most vocal critics of Israeli policy toward the Palestinians, said they will visit Israel, the West Bank, Jordan and Egypt this week.
"The senators are traveling to the region to observe humanitarian aid efforts to Gaza and to press for an immediate cease-fire and the return of the hostages," their statement read.
"The senators will monitor the distribution of humanitarian aid and tour facilities – including crossings – relevant to the humanitarian aid supply chain. The senators also plan to visit communities in the West Bank, where they will discuss increasing, ongoing violence, including the recent killings of American citizens."
