A homeowner nearly had a deadly encounter with a rattlesnake in their backyard after the five-foot snake expertly camouflaged itself in plain sight.

The person, who was not identified in the Reddit thread, was doing some gardening work in their dry creek-bed behind their house when they spotted the reptile just in time.

Despite being within just three feet of the deadly creature, the snake failed to create its tell tale rattle.

'Not a peep!' the user wrote, adding that the reptile was especially tricky to spot as it had buried its head.

At first glance, the small dry creek-bed looked perfectly intact with barely any weeds poking through the mulch.
