That was in June, when she won the French Open. But Gauff has been shaky all summer, so shaky that she’s hired a biomechanics specialist to fix her troublesome serve.

So maybe it will be Madison Keys, this year’s Australian Open champion, instead. Or Jessica Pegula, last year’s U.S. Open finalist. Or Amanda Anisimova, this year’s Wimbledon finalist.
