The Chennur police in Mancherial district on Saturday launched a thorough investigation into a major bank scam worth nearly ₹ 13.70 crore allegedly involving a cashier of the SBI-2 branch in Chennur town.
Acting on a complaint filed by the officials concerned of the bank, the police booked a case against nine persons including the bank’s cashier. According to police sources, the accused allegedly swindled the pledged gold ornaments and cash by fraudulent means. The scam, considered one of the major bank frauds reported in the district, came to light during an internal audit on Friday.
