A sweet TikTok trend is melting hearts as people share their stories of how they met their dogs at the shelter.

In these posts and videos, in response to a dog saying, “Thanks for visiting me, have a great life…” the new owner says, “Thanks, you too!” However, there’s a twist: the dog actually goes home with them.

Leigh Anne, a resident of Denver, Colorado, participated in the trend with her new pup, Primrose.

Anne told USA TODAY via email that she adopted an eight-year-old poodle-bichon mix just before Christmas, a little more than a month after her older dog, Monster, passed away due to health issues at the age of 15.

“I had no intention of adopting another pup any time soon, but I went to the shelter to look around anyways, and to let my other pup, a 9-year-old Husky named Rocky to play with other huskies,” Anne said. “We ended up meeting Primrose, and I fell in love with her ‘sob story’ and didn’t want her to spend Christmas alone.”
