The war of words between JK Rowling and Nicola Sturgeon over gender escalated after the author branded the politician ‘thin skinned’ and ‘vain’.

The former First Minister has claimed that a t-shirt worn by the author which branded her a ‘destroyer of women’s rights’ provoked ‘abuse’ against her.

In the latest of a string of radio and television interviews, she also suggested Ms Rowling should face ‘a bit more scrutiny’ over her views on gender ideology and railed against ‘unaccountable billionaires trying to dictate political debate.’

But yesterday the Edinburgh-based author wrote on X: ‘Is there a clinical term for an individual who has extreme thinness of skin when it comes to their own perceived hurts, coupled with a rhino-hide when it comes to the fear and suffering of others?’

She went on to list examples including the Sandie Peggie tribunal, the Isla Bryson rape case and Scottish rape crisis centres ‘pressured to admit trans-identified males into their services’ as examples of the consequences of transgender ideology championed by Ms Sturgeon.
