BrewDog co-founder Martin Dickie has unexpectedly quit the controversial Scottish craft beer giant ‘for personal reasons’.
Mr Dickie, who founded the Ellon-based firm with James Watt in 2007, revealed in a letter to staff that he planned ‘to step away from BrewDog and the wider alcohol industry’ for good.
The move follows a period of upheaval at the company which included Mr Watt’s decision to step down last year from his role as CEO of the company into a newly-created position of ‘captain and co-founder’.
Mr Dickie’s announcement comes amid claims that BrewDog’s beers had been axed by almost 2,000 pubs across the UK. The figures were published by The Telegraph last week using confidential pub industry data supplied by an insider.
BrewDog also announced last month that it would close 10 bars across the UK, including Dundee, Leeds, Brighton, Oxford, Sheffield, York, three in London and its flagship pub in Aberdeen, putting around 100 jobs at risk.
