The top ten private schools for A-levels all had more than 80 per cent of entries hitting A and A* this year – three times the national average.
New data lays bare excellence among the fee-paying elite, with the top-achiever, Cardiff Sixth Form College, hitting A or A* with 94 per cent of entries.
In contrast, 28.3 per cent of entries across all UK schools achieved A or A* on A-level results day last week.
The much lower national average is mostly driven by state schools, which educate 83 per cent of all sixth formers.
In total, 87 per cent of the private schools providing data beat the national average.
