An Ohio family is grieving two brothers who were found dead after they were swept away by a rip current in Lake Erie, according to park officials and the deceased men's relatives.

The brothers, Austin Labbe, 22, and Trent Sanchez, 19, were reported missing out of Lake Erie's Huntington Beach in Bay Village, Ohio, on Sunday, Aug. 17, Cleveland Metroparks confirmed to USA TODAY this week.

Searchers recovered their bodies three days later on Wednesday, Aug. 20; their remains were about 6 miles away in Lorain County and Avon Lake, Cleveland Metroparks said in a subsequent news release.

Labbe and Sanchez were wading at Huntington Beach in Bay Village, Ohio, on Aug. 17 when they were lost in the water. Officials believe they were pulled away by a rip current, Cleveland Metroparks said in a statement to USA TODAY.

The coroner in Lorain County told USA TODAY on Aug. 21 that Labbe and Sanchez's bodies were found in Lake Erie off of Avon Lake, Ohio. Their deaths are under investigation, and the coroner is awaiting results.
