A Border Security Force (BSF) delegation will be in Bangladesh next week for the biannual Director General level talks with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB).The BSF will raise the attacks on its personnel by armed miscreants along the eastern border during the talks that are scheduled to be held in Dhaka from August 25-28. The issue was raised during the last BSF-BGB Border Co-ordination Conference that was held in Delhi from February 17-20.A BSF official said that the attacks have not stopped even after the matter was strongly pursued with their counterparts in February.Till July 31 this year, as many as 35 BSF personnel have been injured in multiple incidents, a BSF official said. In 2023 and 2024, the number of personnel injured during attacks by miscreants along the Bangladesh border stood at 74 and 72, respectively.This is the second occasion of talks between the border guarding forces of the two countries after the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted from power in August 2024.The BSF delegation will be led by Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary and the BGB delegation will be headed by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, who is the Director General of the BGB.“The conference is being organised to discuss the border-related issues and for better coordination between both border guarding forces,” the BSF said.It said in a statement that during the course of the conference, discussions will be held on the prevention of assault on BSF personnel and Indian civilians by Bangladesh-based miscreants, measures to prevent trans-border crimes, construction of a single-row fence, action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) in Bangladesh, issues related to border infrastructure, joint efforts for effective implementation of Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and confidence-building measures.The Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities – 1975 envisage that there should be frequent contact between the border authorities of the two countries to discuss the matters of immediate administrative concern, the BSF said.
