A man has admitted murdering a 'humble' restaurant owner by stabbing him to death at a Lloyds bank branch.

Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur appeared at Derby Crown Court on Thursday charged with the murder of Gurvinder Singh Johal, who died after the stabbing in the branch in St Peter's Street, Derby on May 6.

Nur, 47, of Western Road, Derby, entered a guilty plea in front of Judge Shaun Smith KC and sentencing was set for October 29, a court official confirmed.

Mr Johal, 37, who was a father-of-three and known to friends as Danny, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were alerted at around 2.35pm.

The father, who owned and ran the Hen and Chickens Bar and Grill restaurant in Shelton Lock, had been taking his restaurant earnings to the bank when he was attacked in broad daylight, friends said.
