BrewDog's beers have been axed by one of Britain's biggest bar chains as the brand has become increasingly less popular with drinkers.Loungers, a 300-strong bar chain removed the Scottish group's products from sale two years ago after deciding it was struggling to stay relevant - and even their flagship Punk IPA has been waning in interest.Drinkers are shunning the 'trendy and expensive' craft beer chain in favour of more traditional pub chains such as JD Wetherspoon. The Scottish company's range of draught beers have disappeared entirely from around 1,860 pubs in the last two years, according to private industry figures.Following a stark decline in BrewDog's relevance in 2023, Loungers' chief executive Alex Reilley, said parting ways with the brand was a 'fairly easy decision'.The blow means BrewDog's UK distribution has been cut by more than a third.'At the end of that period of time with BrewDog, it was a fairly easy decision for us. We took the view that the brand was beginning to waver and we've always felt that we want to be proactive about things like that, as opposed to reactive.'I know the team there now are trying desperately hard to battle against the perception that people still have about BrewDog, and the best of luck to them. I do think the brand is probably going to really struggle to establish the kind of relevance it probably had 10 years ago,' Mr Reilly told the Telegraph. Data also shows that its best-known beer, Punk IPA, has suffered the worst loss after being removed from 1,980 pubs – a 52 per cent fall. Pubs are now reducing their offerings or opting for rival beers such as Camden Town and Beavertown instead. The collapse in UK distribution comes after a difficult period that saw once-thriving BrewDog post huge losses and battle accusations of a 'toxic' workplace culture.Mr Reilley added he had grown 'sick' of the brand becoming engulfed by controversy, which was a factor in his decision to stop selling its products. Former CEO James Watt, married to Made in Chelsea Star, Georgia 'Toff' Toffolo, was also accused of behaving inappropriately with female staff, which he has strongly denied. The chain was founded in 2007 by Mr Watt and Martin Dickie, and rose to fame during an explosion in demand for craft beer.It styled itself as a 'punk' alternative to mainstream brews, which drew in millennial drinkers. James Taylor, the business’s current chief executive, has rebranded the beers around the concept that they are 'brewed fresh' BrewDog co-founder Mr Watt stepped back as CEO in May 2024
