A small town considered the 'renewable energy powerhouse' of NSW has been forced to bring in diesel generators to keep the lights on due to ongoing blackouts.
Crookwell, situated in the Southern Tablelands, has been experiencing power outages for more than a decade with residents left at their wits end.
Despite boasting more than 50 wind turbines and more renewable energy sources than almost any other NSW town, Crookwell has suffered major electricity problems.
Essential Energy revealed the cause of the blackouts can be narrowed down to the fact there is only one power line connecting to the town.
When that line is damaged, residents are left without power until restoration works have been completed. In one case, locals were left in the dark for 13 hours.
