A federal judge denied another attempt by the Justice Department to unseal grand jury transcripts related to the prosecution of the late sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein.
Federal Judge Richard Berman denied the request on Wednesday, arguing that the grand jury testimony “pales in comparison” to the information the Justice Department and President Donald Trump’s administration already has.
“The information contained in the Epstein grand jury transcripts pales in comparison to the Epstein investigation information and materials in the hands of the Department of Justice,” the ruling reads.
Berman’s ruling also pointed out that grand jury transcripts are generally shielded from public disclosure to protect victims and witnesses from “possible threats to victims’ safety and privacy.”
Berman also noted that the government has 100,000 pages of Epstein files and materials, which “dwarf the 70 odd pages of Epstein grand jury material.”
