BELGRADE, August 20. /TASS/. Serbia welcomes the latest meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, viewing it as an important step toward ending the conflict in Eastern Europe, Milos Vucevic, the former prime minister and leader of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, told TASS in an exclusive interview.
"Our position is consistent and clear. The Serbian Progressive Party welcomes any initiative that can lead to the end of the armed conflict in Eastern Europe. We hope that the recent meeting between President Putin and President Trump is a step in this direction," Vucevic said. Serbia, he added, is ready to continue providing diplomatic assistance, if it contributes to peace. "Serbia has always advocated peace, as well as the resolution of all disagreements through political and diplomatic means. We will closely monitor the continuation of this process. Serbia will continue to provide its diplomatic services whenever we are asked to do so, if this can contribute to ending the conflict," Vucevic noted.
He pointed out that Serbia has been subjected to "hybrid aggression" over the past nine months. "We are confident that the pressure on Serbia will significantly ease once an agreement is reached between the great powers," the head of the Serbian Progressive Party said. Vucevic also told TASS that Belgrade's refusal to join anti-Russian sanctions is one of the key reasons for the strong external pressure on Serbia.
