U.S. President Donald Trump took credit for the release of Israeli hostages, calling himself and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "war heroes," during an interview Tuesday on the Mark Levin Show.

"First of all, they weren't going to give back any hostages," Trump said. "I'm the one that got all the hostages back."

Trump claimed that he and his team had "worked hard" to secure the releases, stating that he had "so many letters from parents and from the kids themselves and the people that got out... none of these people would have been back, but I got them back."

The president also praised Netanyahu, referring to him as "your friend, Bibi," and a "good man."

"He's in there fighting, they're trying to put him in jail on top of everything else, how about that?" Trump said, referencing the Israeli prime minister's ongoing legal challenges. "He's a war hero, because we work together. He's a war hero. I guess I am too. Nobody cares, but I am too."
