Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A Florida death row inmate was executed on Tuesday evening for the murder of a young woman four decades ago.
Kayle Barrington Bates' execution by lethal injection occurred at 6:17 p.m. EDT at the Florida State Prison in Raiford, the Florida Department of Corrections announced online.
Bates was convicted in 1982 for the abduction and murder of Janet Renee White, 24, in Bay County.
Bates was a veteran and remained on death row for 42 years before his execution, which Janet White's former husband called delayed justice.
