The Lok Sabha passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), paving the way to set up one of the country’s premier educational institutions in Guwahati, Assam.
While moving the Bill, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that it would facilitate the creation of the second IIM in northeastern India, after IIM Shillong, noting that this was a long-standing demand of people in the region. A financial grant of ₹550 crore has been allocated for IIM Guwahati, he said.
