Thousands of primary school pupils in Liverpool have improved their results in the classroom thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, the city region's mayor has said.

Steve Rotheram told BBC Radio Merseyside 4,000 pupils involved in the pilot had seen their grades improve in the last school year as a result of a tool called Century AI.

The software, developed by Century Tech, automates tasks such as marking, lesson planning, and data gathering, so teachers can "focus on building human relationships with students".

Century Tech said its models had been trained since 2013 using data gathered from schools and institutions across the UK.

The scheme was rolled out across more than 100 primary schools, collectively serving more than 28,000 students and employing over 1,300 teachers
