A court in Kolkata granted bail to Jadavpur University alumnus and researcher Hindol Majumdar on Monday (August 18, 2025). He is accused of plotting an attack on West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu’s convoy at the varsity campus on March 1, 2015.
Mr. Majumdar, who was away in Spain when the alleged attack took place, was arrested on August 14 by Kolkata Police on arrival at New Delhi airport. On August 15, the researcher was produced before a court in Kolkata, where the chief police prosecutor drew parallels between the attack on the American Centre in Kolkata in 2002 and the attack on the minister’s car, saying that the accused need not be present at the site of the crime to plot an attack.
