Egypt reportedly held initial Gaza cease-fire talks with the Palestinian Authority and smaller factions to pressure Hamas, while the proposal includes a temporary 60-day halt to hostilities, partial prisoner exchanges, and a framework for a comprehensive deal
Hamas accepted on Monday a response to a new cease-fire proposal presented by Egypt and Qatar, who are mediating in the negotiations for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, Al Jazeera reported, citing an official from the group.
A senior Hamas official, Taher al-Nono, told Qatar's Al-Arabiya TV channel that the group has agreed to a cease-fire plan that includes U.S. guarantees to end the war. An Egyptian source confirmed to Reuters that the proposal outlines a path toward a comprehensive agreement and includes a 60-day ceasefire alongside the phased release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
The deal, reportedly mediated by Egypt and Qatar and based on a U.S. envoy plan already accepted by Israel, has not yet received an official Israeli response. Israeli sources say the proposal is under careful review. While Hamas' acceptance could advance negotiations, officials caution it is too early to determine whether Israel will formally adopt the plan.
