A plane has made an emergency landing on a packed golf course in Sydney, with the pilot and passenger miraculously escaping without major injury.

The Piper Cherokee light plane crashed into the ground at Mona Vale Golf Course on the Northern Beaches about 2pm.

Two men, believed to both be aged in their 50s, suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) spokesman confirmed there was a pilot instructor and student on-board the plane when it made the emergency landing.

Flight records show the plane took off from Shellharbour near Wollongong this afternoon and made a stop in Camden about 1pm before continuing the flight north.
