Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Saturday that she doesn't rule out sanctioning Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, or even Israel as a whole.

In an interview given to the Danish newspaper "Jyllands-Posten," Frederiksen said that "Netanyahu himself is a problem now," adding that she believes he shouldn't be leading Israel anymore.

"We have a huge political problem with a very, very right-wing government in Israel, which, in my opinion, is currently working against Israel's interests as well. I can say that because we, from the Danish side, have always been very active in supporting the state of Israel since the Second World War," she said.

However, Frederiksen said she opposed the establishment of a Palestinian state "at a time when Hamas actually controls" what she called "large parts" of the Gaza Strip.

"We must also be sure that there is mutual recognition from a Palestinian state by Israel", she added, "And I do not want to do anything that could seem like a reward for Hamas.
