However, the zoo's CEO, Tanya Peterson, who managed the city-owned zoo, retired on 01 August after a year of controversy. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie stated that stable and permanent leadership at the zoo is necessary for the city to welcome pandas successfully and has indicated his support for the zoo's efforts to secure pandas.
