WASHINGTON, August 16. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump will have to demonstrate to his supporters tangible results of his Ukraine-themed contacts with Russia, President of the Center for the National Interest Paul Saunders told TASS.
"The US-Russia relationship is far too strained for meaningful progress in a single summit. But Trump can’t have unlimited meetings, calls and other engagement with Putin without producing tangible results either. If there aren’t real outcomes soon, even Trump’s supporters will give up," the expert said.
In turn, former Lieutenant Governor of Alaska Mead Treadwell expressed hope that the meeting in Anchorage will bring the parties closer to peace.
"When the shooting stops there will be much to celebrate and much to do. Let us hope that the result of this meeting brings that celebration soon," he told a TASS correspondent.
