"There is no one in Lebanon today who wants a civil war, and the threats or hints of this are completely unacceptable," Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said in response to Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, accusing Qassem of making threats of a civil war.

Earlier, Qassem warned, following a vote to disarm Hezbollah, that if the Lebanese government goes through with it, "there will be no life in Lebanon" and the government would bear full responsibility for "any internal conflict or destruction that may occur in Lebanon."

The prime minister also rejected claims that his government was acting to advance American and Israeli interests, and clarified that "no party in Lebanon is authorized to carry weapons outside the country's army and security forces."
