Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh has ordered the arrest of a man and his family members following the death of his pregnant wife by suicide on August 14.
The woman, Sravani from Kalyandurg town, was the wife of Srinivasulu, a petty vendor who is said to be a TDP worker. Sravani was three month pregnant and was allegedly being harassed by her husband over financial issues.
On August 11, Sravani lodged a complaint with the Kalyandurg Town police, alleging harassment by her husband. The police counselled the couple on a couple of occasions, but this did not yield any result. A case was subsequently registered. On August 14, however, Sravani ended her life.
In a voice message released purportedly by Sravani, it was alleged that the police did not act on her complaint, bowing to pressure from some local TDP leaders.
Following this, Mr. Jagadeesh ordered the arrest of Srinivasulu and his family members and also initiate an inquiry on the Kalyandurg Urban police.
