At least six people are dead as a structure near the boundary wall of the Humayun’s Tomb premises collapsed on Friday (August 15, 2025).

An official at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi said that nine patients were admitted, five of them have been declared dead. The remaining patients are stable and under observation. Sources also confirmed that one victim was brought dead to LNJP Hospital, increasing the death toll to six.

Superintending Archaeologist R.K. Patel, ASI Delhi circuitm, told The Hindu that the roof and side wall of a mosque adjacent to the boundary wall of the Humayun’s Tomb collapsed. “It is neither part of the Tomb complex nor is it on premises of the ASI monitored property, however the gates of the tomb were opened to facilitate rescue operations,” said Mr. Patel.

The monument is a mid-16th Century mausoleum that is frequented by tourists .
