A man who went viral for throwing a Subway sandwich at a federal officer is now facing a felony charge.
Federal prosecutors have charged Sean Charles Dunn with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers after he allegedly lobbed a sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection officer on Sunday evening in northwest Washington, D.C.
“He doesn’t think it’s funny today because we charged him with a felony, assault on a police officer,” said Jeannine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for D.C., in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter. “And we’re going to back the police to the hilt.”
The charge comes as President Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement to take over policing in Washington, D.C., claiming without evidence there’s a crime emergency in the district. The White House has said the influx of troops and officers will be on patrol 24/7, and so far, they’ve been met with protesters and hecklers.
In her video, Pirro appeared eager to make an example of Dunn and to demonstrate how prosecutors can hit protesters with outsized penalties.
