Israeli security forces thwarted a suspected stabbing attack at the Qalandiya crossing north of Jerusalem, arresting a man from Gaza, authorities said Thursday.

According to the Israel Police, the incident occurred when officers from the Border Police and the Jerusalem District Police, along with civilian security guards, noticed a man approaching the checkpoint on foot who aroused their suspicion.

When the forces moved to inspect him, the suspect drew a knife, according to a police statement. Officers quickly performed an arrest procedure, overpowering the man within seconds. He dropped the knife and was taken into custody.

Police said there were no injuries to security personnel. The suspect, a Gaza resident in his 20s, was arrested for questioning.
