Fishermen venturing into the sea without life jackets will soon be provided safety gear by the State government, Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport Minister Mankal S. Vaidya informed the Legislative Council on Wednesday.
Replying to Congress member Tippanna Kamakanur, the Minister said that several measures have been taken to prevent accidents and fatalities during fishing at sea. Fishing boat licenses are issued only after ensuring that life-saving equipment such as life jackets and life buoys is available in proportion to the number of fishermen on board.
