Eight students of Government Primary School, Poonairuppu, near Valangaiman, suffered dehydration after consuming the breakfast offered to them at their school on Wednesday.According to official sources, a total of 20 students from Poonairuppu hamlet and surrounding villages were pursuing their primary education at the school. Out of them, eight started vomiting after consuming food offered under the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme and subsequently fell unconscious.They were immediately rushed to the primary health centre at nearby Alangudi village from where they were shifted to the Government District Headquarters Hospital, Kumbakonam, for advanced treatment.Senior Revenue Officials from Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts called on the pupils at the hospital and inquired about their condition with the doctors, the sources said.
