IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir's conduct harms the Israeli military, Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement Wednesday morning.
The minister issued his statement amid a recent public clash between the two after he publicly challenged military promotions approved by Zamir. The military chief also received criticism after opposing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to take over Gaza.
On Tuesday, Haaretz revealed that Zamir said in talks with generals at the General Staff Forum and with figures outside the army that the prime minister's family had marked him after he opposed the Gaza plan, and that those around Netanyahu are interested in ousting him.
"The attempt now to change the procedures we have been working on, perhaps on the advice of a group of anti-government consultants stirring the pot, and to replace them with an attempt to determine facts on the ground and in impromptu meetings - will not succeed," Katz wrote in his statement.
"It is regrettable that this unnecessary harm has been inflicted on IDF officers, many of whom are heroes who have sacrificed themselves for the security of Israel," he added.
