TEHRAN, August 12. /TASS/. Iranian authorities detained 21,000 people during the armed conflict between the country and Israel in June, police spokesman General Saeed Montazer-al-Mahdi said.
"During the 12-day conflict, 21,000 suspicious individuals were detained," the Mehr news agency quoted him as saying.
Montazer-al-Mahdi pointed out that the number of citizen reports increased by 41% during the active phase of the confrontation between Iran and Israel, and that many of the detentions were made on the basis of these reports. "Ensuring security in various areas, from cyberspace to road traffic, has been made possible thanks to the cooperation between the armed forces and the Iranian people," he added.
According to the Fars news agency, Iranian law enforcement agencies have detained at least 700 people since the start of the armed conflict with Israel on suspicion of working for Israeli special services. Most of those detained have been charged with launching small drones from Iranian territory, manufacturing homemade bombs, or filming military facilities to pass information to Israeli intelligence. The news agency also reported that more than 10,000 small drones were seized in Tehran alone.
