The Kerala High Court has ordered the arrest of a Liberia-flagged vessel named MV MSC Palermo that is berthed off Vizhinjam, as compensation to four fishing-boat owners who approached the Kerala High Court.

In an Admiralty suit, they sought a total of ₹2.60 crore as compensation for the losses their vessels suffered after coming into contact with containers and other debris that fell off into the sea from a ship MSC Elsa that sank off the Kerala coast on May 25.

The fishing-boat owners had sought the arrest of the Liberia-flagged vessel. The warrant of arrest will be withdrawn once the amount is deposited or security is furnished, a Single Bench of Justice Easwaran S. said.
