Royapuram Zone (V) and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar Zone (VI) cleared over twice as much garbage in the last half of July as they did in the first 10 days of August — a difference of 8,266.36 tonnes, indicating the protest by conservancy workers under the National Urban Livelihood Mission is continuing to affect garbage collection.

A total of 23,961.22 tonnes of solid waste were removed from the two zones between July 16 and August 10, according to data released by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Monday.
