Q. I am looking to buy a refurbished Aga cooker on eBay and have found a company with great reviews that specialises in refurbished ranges. The company will deliver it to my home, but I am nervous that they specify that they do not accept returns. I am confident that the measurements are accurate but if it arrives on the day and I don’t like the colour I would like the option to return it — I will be saving a lot of money buying it second-hand but it is still more than £2,300.
I was under the impression that companies had a legal obligation to accept returns within a certain time; is that not the case?

You’re right to be concerned about a business or seller with a flat “no returns” policy. In fairness though, buying an Aga is a bit different from purchasing a T-shirt. You can’t just pop it down to the post office if you’ve decided that it’s not your thing. So it’s not surprising that the seller may be reluctant to accept returns of items in perfectly good condition.
