Benjamin Netanyahu has said his plan to expand military action in Gaza is “the best way to end the war”.

The Israeli prime minister has told a press conference in Jerusalem that he has “no choice” but to “finish the job” and “defeat” Hamas.

While up to three quarters of the territory is under Israeli control, Hamas still has strongholds, including Gaza City.

“Dismantling” that stronghold is “the best way to end the war,” he said.

Gazans are “begging us and begging the world” to be freed from Hamas and Israel’s goal is not to occupy Gaza, but to free it from the terrorist group, he added.
