It is August 9, 1945. Three days ago America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, hoping in vain to force Japan into unconditional surrender. The decision has been made to use a second of these weapons.
That bomb will very nearly not be dropped. What follows are the events of that mission, told in real time.
