Frequent incidents of overflowing sewage on Thillai Nagar main road in the city have caused severe inconvenience to the residents and commuters.
It is common to see knee deep water, mixed with sewage, on the Thillai Nagar main road, one of the important roads in the city, on rainy days. Earlier, the people did not bother much as they thought that it was quite normal to see overflowing sewage mixing with rain water. But what is causing concern is that the open drains on both the sides of the road are overflowing even when there is no rain.
While the entire 1.5 km long open drains are vulnerable for sewage overflowing, the issue often comes to the fore between 10th and 11th cross and 2nd and 7th cross on one side and 5th and 7th cross on the other side. The sewage water flows on the road, where passengers wait for city buses at Makkal Mandram. It stretches for about 300 meters from 2nd cross, thereby causing inconvenience to the passengers and passers-by. They find it difficult to find a place to wait for the buses.
“It is not the first time I have noticed the issue. I have encountered it on a number of occasions. It is surprising to note the issue on Thillai Nagar main road, one of the upscale residential and commercial areas in the city,” says a teacher, who is employed in a private school in Thillai Nagar.
